Bitcoin's Capitulation Signals May Indicate Further Decline Ahead

VanEck, an asset manager, has identified eight out of twelve 'capitulation' indicators for Bitcoin that are currently at levels associated with heavy selling. These signals include drawdown from peak prices, miner economics, and holder losses.

The current decline of about 49% below the all-time high is considered a capitulation signal by VanEck's criteria. However, historical data suggests that investors may need to wait longer for a sustained recovery.

VanEck examined previous periods when between eight and twelve indicators were active. The analysis showed an average return of 12.8% over the following 90 days and 32% over 180 days. These figures are below Bitcoin's broader historical averages, but exceeded its baseline only when measured over a one-year period.

The firm cautioned that its sample is small and includes overlapping periods, limiting how much can be inferred from previous results. VanEck also disclosed that it has exposure to Bitcoin.
