Bitcoin's Cycle Bottom: Exchange Shutdowns Not Reliable Indicator
Crypto market participants are speculating about whether Bitcoin has reached its cycle bottom. Recent exchange shutdowns have fueled the narrative that such failures signal a market turning point, but Alphractal founder Joao Wedson disputes this view.
Wedson notes that only nine crypto exchanges and trading platforms have announced or completed shutdowns so far in 2026, which is the lowest annual total recorded in at least eight years. This contradicts claims that the recent closures point to a major Bitcoin bottom.
The closures include high-profile trading platforms such as BitMEX, AscendEX, and BitMart, as well as Odos and Dango. However, these shutdowns have had little impact on price action, with Bitcoin trading near $63,500.
