Bitcoin's Decentralized Lending Protocol Takes Shape

Zest Protocol is a decentralized lending platform built specifically for the Bitcoin ecosystem. It allows users to borrow against their Bitcoin holdings while maintaining ownership of their assets.

The protocol was developed to address one of Bitcoin's limitations: the lack of native decentralized lending infrastructure. Zest initially launched on the Stacks network, where it established one of the largest Bitcoin-focused lending markets. Over time, it expanded its architecture to support lending models that maintain Bitcoin on its native blockchain while allowing borrowers to access liquidity on compatible execution environments.

Zest has received backing from investors including Trust Machines, Tim Draper, and YZi Labs. The protocol's initial lending market on Stacks operated in production for multiple years, supporting institutional and retail participation while demonstrating the operational viability of Bitcoin-backed decentralized lending.
