Bitcoin's Dominance Soars as Altcoins Trail Behind
Bitcoin's rally has left other cryptocurrencies in its dust, surging by almost 24% over the past week to near $79,000.
This is Bitcoin's best run since 2023, and its dominance of the market has climbed to around 61%, a sign that altcoins are not keeping pace with the leading cryptocurrency.
The CoinMarketCap Altcoin Season Index, which measures how many top 100 coins have beaten Bitcoin's price over 90 days, sits at 46, far short of the 75 mark that signals an actual altcoin season.
Ethereum was one of the few altcoins to perform well, climbing by about 30% to above $2,500, but even Total3, a metric that strips out Bitcoin and Ethereum from the market, cooled after an initial burst and is now down for the week.
