Bitcoin's Dominance Unchallenged as Altcoins Fail to Gain Traction
A recent trend in the cryptocurrency market shows that institutional investors are shifting their funds from Bitcoin (BTC) into altcoins like Ether (ETH), XRP, and Solana (SOL). According to a report, over $120 million flowed out of Bitcoin spot ETFs on September 9, while these three altcoin ETFs drew about $59 million in inflows. However, this trend has not led to broader strength across the altcoin market.
The blockchain media outlet CryptoSlate reported that Bitcoin spot ETFs posted net outflows of $120.24 million, while Ether ETFs took in $34.75 million, XRP products drew $12.29 million, and Solana ETFs saw $11.73 million in inflows on September 9. The concentration of flows is also clear over the past 30 days, with Bitcoin ETFs recording the largest net inflows at $3.42 billion, followed by Ether ETFs at $1.76 billion.
Experts point out that this trend is not spreading across the overall cryptocurrency market. BlockchainCenter's altcoin season index stood at 37 as of September 9, which falls well short of the 75 threshold. This means that Wall Street money is moving into some altcoins, but broad-based rotation into altcoins is not appearing across the wider market.
