Bitcoin's Explosive Growth Transforms Portfolios
A small initial bet in Bitcoin has ballooned to an astonishing 85% of some portfolios, according to Tom Lee. The Fundstrat co-founder shared this story with Wealthion in an interview published on September 11, 2026.
This remarkable growth is not due to any additional investments or rebalancing. Instead, it's the result of Bitcoin's own price appreciation over time. According to Lee, a 2% bet in Bitcoin made ten years ago would now be worth nearly 85% of the average Fundstrat client's portfolio.
The calculation is striking: an initial $100 portfolio with a 2% allocation to BTC would need to grow to about $555 for that single asset to represent 85% of the total. This represents a return on investment of over 278 times the original stake.
However, this concentration of wealth in Bitcoin also raises concerns about diversification and risk management. Lee notes that without rebalancing, the rise in Bitcoin's price automatically increases exposure to crypto assets, potentially reducing diversification and increasing vulnerability to sharp market downturns.
