Bitcoin's Golden Cross: A Bullish Signal with a History of Delayed Gains
Bitcoin's recent price action has been closely watched by investors and analysts, and last week it formed a 'golden cross', a bullish signal in technical analysis. The simple moving averages crossed over on Tuesday, with the 50-day moving average rising above the 200-day moving average. This move is often seen as a precursor to accelerated growth in other financial assets.
However, Bitcoin's history suggests that this signal may not necessarily translate to immediate gains. In the past two instances when the 'golden cross' appeared, in October 2024 and May 2025, as well as in 2020, it took time for the price to react. The current situation bears a closer resemblance to what was seen in 2019, when the golden cross preceded a 90% rally in less than two months.
Meanwhile, the crypto market capitalization has remained relatively stable over the past 24 hours, rising by just 0.4% to $2.7 trillion. Some notable movements include gains for Cosmos, Polkadot, and Zcash, while Internet Computer, Uniswap, and Litecoin have fallen.
The price of Bitcoin remains below the $80,000 mark but has rebounded to around $77,600. The 'golden cross' signal is seen as a positive development for investors, but it's unclear how soon the market will respond.
