Bitcoin's Greed Index Dips as Macro FUD Mounts: Is September Rally at Risk?
Bitcoin's recent surge to near four-month highs has left investors wondering if the current rally is sustainable or just a temporary spike. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index, which measures market sentiment, currently stands at 69, indicating a strong risk appetite.
However, some analysts believe that this level of greed could be a bearish catalyst, potentially signaling the end of Bitcoin's September rally. Historically, market tops have occurred when the index has entered 'Extreme Greed' territory, but so far, it has not reached those levels.
The macroeconomic backdrop is also adding to the uncertainty, with inflation data due for release and rate hike expectations climbing back to 60%. This could make the financial conditions even tighter, making it challenging for risk assets like Bitcoin to sustain their gains.
According to Coinglass data, since the top of the Bitcoin price in October near $126k, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index has not entered extreme greed territory. Instead, previous market tops have occurred when the index pushed deeper into the greed zone and then turned back.
