Bitcoin's Kimchi Premium Rebounds: Is South Korea Driving Global Price Surge?
The Bitcoin Kimchi premium, a measure of the difference between Bitcoin's price on South Korean exchanges and global markets, has returned to positive territory. As of September 10, BTC was trading at a 1.55% premium on Upbit and Bithumb compared to international prices.
This marks a significant shift from the summer months, when the Kimchi premium traded at a discount of around 0.25%. Analysts attribute this change to increased demand from South Korean retail traders, who are driving up the price of BTC on local exchanges.
However, experts caution that the Kimchi premium is not solely responsible for Bitcoin's global price surge in September. Other factors, such as steady ETF demand and improving sentiment after the August sell-off, have contributed to the rally.
