Bitcoin's Muted Reaction to July Inflation Data Highlights Decoupling from Macro Drivers
Bitcoin's price action this week has been surprisingly subdued in response to key inflation data releases. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the July Consumer Price Index (CPI) at 3.4% year-over-year, exactly matching consensus expectations.
The following day, the Producer Price Index (PPI) came in flat month-over-month, defying forecasts for a 0.2% increase and marking a sharper-than-expected cooling to 4.7% annual growth from 5.5% in June.
These inflation readings have eased market concerns about aggressive Federal Reserve tightening. The CME FedWatch tool showed the probability of a September rate hike dropping from 55% last week to roughly 34% on August 13, prompting broad U.S. equity gains and lower Treasury yields.
