Bitcoin's Price Surge May Signal Start of All-Time High Bull Run
A 24% surge in Bitcoin's price on August 22 has sparked widespread speculation about whether a new bull run is underway. However, some remain skeptical. According to author @BensonTWN, what's happening now may be more than just a bull market - it could be the start of an all-time high level bull run.
The sudden increase in Bitcoin's price coincided with a 5.6% rise in gold and a 2.1% decline in the Nasdaq. Historically, investors have viewed Bitcoin as a high-beta tech stock, but this time it seems to be moving independently of traditional market trends. In fact, since May, the 60-day correlation coefficient between Bitcoin and gold has skyrocketed to 0.636, while its correlation with the Nasdaq has plummeted to 0.13.
According to historical data, a correlation coefficient above 0.5 is extremely rare, occurring only 2.2% of the time since Bitcoin's inception. In the past, this phenomenon has been seen twice before - in August 2020 and October 2022. Both times, it preceded an important bottom zone for Bitcoin.
Author @BensonTWN suggests that two distinct groups are driving Bitcoin's price: short-term traders who view it as a high-risk growth stock and long-term investors who see it as a hedge against inflation and currency devaluation.
