Bitcoin's Quantum Computing Conundrum Threatens Global Dominance
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has expressed concerns that Bitcoin could lose its position as the world's largest cryptocurrency if it fails to adapt to quantum computing. In an interview, Hoskinson argued that Bitcoin's biggest weakness lies in its limited ability to implement major protocol upgrades due to its governance model.
Hoskinson stressed that quantum computing represents a fundamentally different threat compared to previous challenges faced by Bitcoin. Unlike previous external threats, quantum-resistant security would likely require coordinated, network-wide upgrades, which could be difficult for Bitcoin to organize and deploy efficiently.
According to Hoskinson, Cardano was built to preserve Bitcoin's original vision while addressing limitations that emerged over time. He described Cardano as Bitcoin's 'spiritual successor,' saying the blockchain solves issues that Satoshi Nakamoto could not fully address due to technical limitations and time constraints during Bitcoin's early development.
