Bitcoin's Quantum Computing Dilemma: Can Cardano Fill the Gap?
Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, has warned that Bitcoin may struggle to counter the threat posed by quantum computing. He believes that Bitcoin's rigid structure and governance model make it difficult for the network to adapt quickly to new technologies.
Hoskinson pointed out that Bitcoin's decentralized nature makes it challenging to update its protocol, which is a major weakness in the face of quantum computing threats. According to Hoskinson, Bitcoin's strength lies in its ability to survive external threats, but quantum computing poses an entirely different kind of risk.
Hoskinson sees Cardano as a potential alternative to Bitcoin, citing its formal on-chain governance and planned upgrade that would increase network speed 60-fold from current levels. He believes that this would allow Cardano to respond quickly to technological threats, including those posed by quantum computing.
