Bitcoin's Quantum Fix May Unleash New Vulnerabilities
Samson Mow, founder of Jan3, has warned that rushing to implement post-quantum cryptography on the Bitcoin (BTC) network could introduce new security vulnerabilities.
Mow's warning comes in response to calls from Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and chief security officer Philip Martin, who urged the crypto industry to prepare for quantum computing threats immediately.
Mow rejected this timeline, arguing that a hasty migration to post-quantum encryption would create fresh attack surfaces rather than eliminate them.
The core technical issue is the dramatic size increase of post-quantum signatures, up to 125 times bigger than current ones, according to figures from former Bitcoin developer Jonas Schnelli.
This expansion would consume far more space in each block, reducing the network's ability to process transactions.
