Bitcoin's Rally Hits Ceiling as Short Squeeze Fades
Bitcoin's explosive rally has come to an abrupt halt as it trades below $80,000. The cryptocurrency surged more than 20% last week and reached a three-month high of around $79,500 on Friday.
The rapid price increase was fueled by Treasury bond buybacks, a weaker dollar, ETF demand, regulatory optimism, and a historic short squeeze.
However, the market now faces a new challenge. The forced buying that powered the rally is fading, leaving Bitcoin dependent on sustained institutional demand and friendlier interest rates.
According to Shawn Young, chief analyst at MEXC Research, the Treasury's intervention has 'opened a pressure valve,' but crypto markets have priced it as a broader change in monetary conditions. This means that the underlying macro case for Bitcoin remains unimproved.
