Bitcoin's Repeated Failures Above $65K Raise Bar for Bulls
The price of Bitcoin has repeatedly failed to hold above $65,000, making this level a significant resistance zone for the cryptocurrency's recovery.
Despite approaching or briefly trading above $65,000 on several occasions during its latest rebound, BTC has not been able to establish sustained acceptance above this level.
The failure of buyers to close convincingly above $65,000 is noteworthy because repeated tests can actually strengthen resistance, making it a reliable location for sellers to take profits or establish short positions.
A study by Bitfinex found that Bitcoin registered consecutive daily highs above $65,000 between August 5 and August 10 without recording a daily close above the threshold, suggesting an even broader resistance zone of $65,000-$65,500.
The market's inability to overcome this resistance can be attributed to on-chain positioning, with approximately 1.79 million BTC having a cost basis between $62,000 and $65,000, representing well over $110 billion in potential overhead supply.
