Bitcoin's Safe-Haven Status Challenged by Brookings Economist

Robin Brooks, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, has questioned the notion that Bitcoin is a safe-haven asset or reliable store of value. In his analysis, he points out that since debasement-driven investment flows began in earnest, Bitcoin has consistently underperformed precious metals.

This, he argues, indicates that Bitcoin does not function as a hedge against fiat currency devaluation like gold and silver do. Brooks emphasizes that while this is partly a matter of perception, it is also reflected in actual price moves.

The economist's comments come at a time when global investors are scrutinizing assets that can withstand inflationary pressures and currency depreciation. While Bitcoin is often dubbed 'digital gold' by its proponents, Brooks's analysis suggests that, in practice, it has not lived up to that moniker during periods of heightened debasement concerns.
