Bitcoin's Scarce Future: Wealthy Individuals May Be Priced Out of Whole Coins
Cryptocurrency scarcity has become a pressing concern as Bitcoin's available supply dwindles. According to Changpeng Zhao, former Binance CEO and current owner of BNB, wealthy individuals may soon find themselves priced out of owning one complete Bitcoin.
As of August 15, 2026, over 20.07 million coins have been mined, leaving only 4.4% more supply remaining before the network reaches its maximum of 21 million tokens. This scarcity could drive up demand for whole Bitcoin units dramatically.
CZ estimates that between 10-20% of all existing Bitcoins may be permanently lost or unrecoverable due to lost private keys or other storage risks.
The United States is home to approximately 23.6 million millionaires, a figure that surpasses the absolute ceiling of Bitcoin's supply. This raises concerns about whether even wealthy individuals will be able to purchase one complete Bitcoin.
