Bitcoin's Stability Lures Traders into Buying Protection
Bitcoin has been trading at around $64,700 for a while now, and traders are taking advantage of this stability by buying protection against potential price drops. Spot bitcoin ETFs pulled in $754 million during the first week of August, with no outflows recorded so far this month.
The options market is also seeing a surge in activity, particularly around protection at the $62,000 and $63,000 levels. Puts, which grant the right but not the obligation to sell, made up 53.8% of bitcoin options volume over the last 24 hours, with three of the four busiest contracts being puts struck at these levels.
Luke Deans, senior research associate at Bitwise, noted that the market is becoming crowded around the expectation that very little will happen. He said, 'The market is effectively becoming crowded around the expectation that very little will happen.'
