Bitcoin's Surge Sparks Sudden Shift From Fear to Greed
Crypto traders have made a remarkable shift from fearful to greedy in just one day. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index, which measures market sentiment, jumped to 62 on August 20, up 16 points from the previous day's reading of 46, firmly in 'Fear'.
This sudden change comes as Bitcoin surged beyond $72,000, catching traders who had bet on another decline off guard. In fact, many traders had placed bets on crypto prices falling, but instead, the market suddenly went the other way.
The scale of those losses helps explain why sentiment changed so quickly. According to data from AMBCrypto, $1.44 billion in shorts were wiped out during the previous day's rally, with Bitcoin accounting for $861.06 million and Ethereum responsible for another $424.21 million.
