Bitcoin's Uptrend Faces Regulatory Test as Senate Prepares to Vote on CLARITY Act
Bitcoin's price is hovering near $77,700 as investors await the Senate vote on the CLARITY Act, a landmark legislation that could bring much-needed regulatory clarity to the digital asset space. The bill, set to be voted on September 15, aims to reduce ambiguity and provide a clear framework for exchanges, banks, and decentralized finance (DeFi) developers.
Institutional investors are driving the uptrend, with large Bitcoin holders adding around 60,000 BTC to their positions in August. This surge in institutional demand contrasts with retail selling, which saw about 47,000 BTC sold during the same period. Publicly listed companies like Japanese firm Remixpoint are also shifting their crypto strategies, liquidating altcoins to focus exclusively on Bitcoin.
The CLARITY Act vote is seen as a watershed moment for U.S. crypto regulation. If passed, it would pave the way for a clear legal framework that defines the roles of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in overseeing digital assets.
However, experts caution against excessive optimism. NYDIG's Greg Cipolaro notes that there are no imminent crypto-specific catalysts for a price surge this month, pointing instead to macroeconomic drivers as the primary influences. Analyst Crypto Rover warns of an impending correction due to a flat spot cumulative volume delta (CVD) and the heavy resistance zone near $83,000-$86,000.
