Bitdeer has made one of its biggest moves beyond Bitcoin mining by signing a $4.7 billion lease agreement to turn its Norway facility into an artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) data center.

The deal, which will run for 16 years with the option to extend for another eight years, was signed with Volta Tydal AS. The facility will support AI computing by providing data center space powered by renewable energy.

The agreement is a key milestone in Bitdeer's evolution as a global AI infrastructure platform, according to Chief Financial Officer Michael G. Potter.

The campus will have 121 megawatts (MW) of IT capacity and operate using 100% renewable hydropower from Norway.
