Bitdeer Cranks Up Bitcoin Mining Capacity Amid AI Expansion
Bitdeer is increasing its Bitcoin mining power by deploying its own Sealminer A2 Pro Air machines at Soluna's Texas wind farm, Project Kati 1. The deployment starts in September and will add around 28 MW of capacity to the site, bringing the total to roughly 192 MW. This deal is unique as both companies split the Bitcoin mining proceeds produced by the deployment, rather than Bitdeer collecting a hosting fee.
This move comes at a time when other miners are shifting their focus towards artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC), chasing better economics from existing power portfolios. However, Bitdeer is not abandoning its AI ambitions either, with plans to build up to 350 MW of AI cloud data center capacity by the first quarter of 2028.
The company's strategy involves building its own hardware and shipping it into third-party facilities where someone else has handled the expensive work of securing power, infrastructure, and operations. This approach allows Bitdeer to add computing power without spending years securing land, interconnections, and another power site.
