Bitget Ditches Japan Amid Regulatory Pressure

Share

Bitget, one of the larger cryptocurrency exchanges by reported trading activity, is closing its services to Japanese users. The exchange has already stopped accepting new registrations from residents in Japan and existing accounts will enter close-only mode on November 1.

Users who are classified as belonging to Japan will be unable to open new positions or increase current ones. Deposits will still be available subject to limits, while withdrawals will remain possible.

The restrictions cover spot and futures trading, copy trading, trading bots, and yield-related products. Bitget plans to forcibly close any remaining open positions on December 31.

Card services will also be suspended after this date, although withdrawals will continue to be available. The phased process is intended to give customers several months to close trades, repay obligations, and transfer assets away from the platform.
