Bitget Enters Regulated Digital Asset Market in Bhutan with GMCA Partnership
Bitget, a cryptocurrency exchange, has formed a partnership with the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority (GMCA) in Bhutan to launch a regulated digital asset business. Under this agreement, Bitget will establish a local company and apply for a Financial Services License to provide digital asset services. The exchange will work closely with the GMCA on regulations, operations, and ecosystem growth.
The partnership comes as Bhutan gains recognition for its long-term approach to digital assets. The Himalayan nation has used its hydropower resources to support environmentally sustainable Bitcoin mining and aims to diversify its economy through digital finance. Gelephu Mindfulness City is being developed into an international financial and innovation hub, with dedicated regulations covering financial services and virtual assets.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said Bhutan offers a unique mix of long-term vision, clean energy, and clear regulations. She added that the exchange hopes to support GMC's digital finance growth through its experience, technology, and talent development.
The partnership is part of Bhutan's broader strategy to create jobs and retain skilled workers through digital asset innovation. The GMCA has expressed a desire to create a world-class digital asset ecosystem focused on strong regulation, institutional standards, and long-term growth.
