Bitget Exits Japan Amid Regulatory Crackdown
Bitget has announced its exit from Japan following regulatory warnings over unregistered crypto services. Starting November 1, 2026, new registrations from Japan will be suspended and existing accounts will face restrictions if they are not verified by the same deadline.
The exchange requires users flagged as Japanese residents to complete Level 2 identity verification, which includes address verification and other documents confirming their residential status. Unverified accounts will be classified as belonging to Japanese residents after November 1 and will gradually face service restrictions under Bitget's withdrawal process.
Users must settle leveraged trades and derivatives positions before December 31, 2026, when any remaining open positions will be forced closed. The exchange has not detailed every restriction but plans to provide further instructions through registered email addresses.
