Bitget Exits Japan Amid Tightening Crypto Regulations

Share

Bitget is withdrawing from Japan's cryptocurrency market due to increasing regulatory pressure. The Seychelles-registered exchange has stopped accepting new sign-ups from Japanese users, effective immediately.

Existing accounts must complete Level 2 verification by November 1, 2026, or be classified as Japan-based residents and subject to restrictions.

By December 31, 2026, Bitget will forcibly close any remaining open positions in affected accounts.

The move is part of Bitget's 'ongoing commitment to regulatory compliance' but does not specify a specific regulatory change or FSA action that triggered the decision.
