Bitget Eyes Licensed Crypto Hub in Bhutan's $100 Billion Mindfulness City
Crypto exchange Bitget has partnered with Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority (GMCA) to explore establishing a licensed digital asset operation in the $100 billion economic zone.
The agreement, announced Thursday, will see both parties jointly assess how a regulated crypto ecosystem could function within GMC, a special administrative region designed to attract international investment in finance, technology, and wellness.
GMC is backed in part by Bhutan's national Bitcoin reserves, accumulated largely through mining operations rather than outright purchases. The country's deepening commitment to blockchain technology reflects its economic development strategy.
The Bitget partnership follows another significant development in GMC's digital asset strategy, with Canadian digital-asset manager 3iQ appointed last week to oversee a mandate backed by a portion of the city's Bitcoin treasury.
