Bitget Eyes Licensed Digital Asset Exchange in Bhutan
Bitget, a leading digital asset trading platform, has taken another step in expanding its global presence. The company has signed a cooperation agreement with the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority to establish a licensed digital asset exchange in southern Bhutan.
The partnership sets out how Bitget would create a legal entity within the special administrative region of Gelephu Mindfulness City and apply for a Financial Services Licence, which is issued by the Gelephu Financial Services Office. The agreement also includes plans for both parties to collaborate on operational, regulatory, and ecosystem work.
Bitget's CEO, Gracy Chen, highlighted Bhutan's unique approach to digital assets, citing its 'long-term thinking, clean-energy advantage, and regulatory clarity' as key factors in the country's appeal. She described Gelephu Mindfulness City as an emerging hotbed for digital finance.
Bhutan has been actively promoting the use of hydropower to support green cryptocurrency mining, part of its efforts to boost economic growth, create jobs, and retain young talent. The country also backed the Bitcoin (BTC) Development Pledge in December 2025.
