Bitget Eyes Licensed Presence in Bhutan's Digital Finance Hub
Bitget, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has taken a significant step in expanding its presence globally by signing a cooperation agreement with the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority in Bhutan. The agreement sets out how Bitget would establish a legal entity in the city and apply for a Financial Services Licence.
The Gelephu Financial Services Office is responsible for issuing this licence, which is required under the Financial Services Act 2025 and subsidiary rulebooks that govern regulated financial or virtual asset activities in the region. Both parties will also collaborate on operational, regulatory, and ecosystem work.
According to Bitget's CEO, Gracy Chen, Bhutan is a unique market due to its long-term thinking, clean-energy advantage, and regulatory clarity. She describes Gelephu Mindfulness City as an emerging hub for digital finance.
Bhutan has been actively promoting the use of renewable energy, particularly hydropower, to support green cryptocurrency mining as part of its efforts to boost economic growth, create jobs, and retain young talent. The country was among those that backed the Bitcoin Development Pledge in December 2025.
