Bitget Eyes Licensed Presence in Bhutan's Emerging Digital Finance Hub
Bitget has expanded its global presence by signing a cooperation agreement with Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority in southern Bhutan. The exchange plans to establish a legal entity and apply for a Financial Services Licence, which would allow it to operate in the region.
The partnership will facilitate operational, regulatory, and ecosystem work between Bitget and the city authority. Bitget's chief executive, Gracy Chen, highlighted Bhutan's unique approach to digital assets, combining long-term thinking, clean-energy advantages, and regulatory clarity.
Bhutan has made a significant push for green cryptocurrency mining using its hydropower resources, aiming to boost economic growth, create jobs, and retain young talent. The country backed the Bitcoin Development Pledge in December 2025.
