Bitget Seeks Foothold in Bhutan with GMC Partnership
Bitget, a prominent crypto exchange, has entered into an agreement with the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority (GMC) to explore establishing a licensed local operation in Bhutan.
The GMC is an autonomous economic zone backed by Bhutan's national Bitcoin reserves and aims to create high-value roles in finance, tech, and wellness. It boasts a $100 billion economy and is considered the 'emerging hotbed for digital finance'.
Gracy Chen, CEO at Bitget, expressed enthusiasm about contributing exchange experience and infrastructure knowledge to GMC's growing ecosystem. The partnership may pave the way for Bitget to establish a legal presence in Bhutan and prepare its application for a relevant financial services license.
