Bitget Shuts Down New User Sign-Ups for Japan Amid Regulatory Compliance
Bitget has announced it will stop onboarding new users from Japan as of August 3, 2026, citing regulatory compliance. This move is part of a broader trend in the crypto industry, with several exchanges shutting down or restricting access to certain markets this year.
The exchange has confirmed that new sign-ups from Japan residents will not be accepted after the specified date. Users who believe they were incorrectly flagged as Japan residents must complete Level 2 identity verification by November 1, 2026. Those who fail to do so will have their accounts treated as Japanese and face staged account limits.
Bitget's market standing remains strong, with a large user base and trading volume. The exchange reports $326,243,212.34 in 24-hour spot trading volume and $5,868,123,423.98 in total reported assets.
