Bitget has partnered with Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority in a move that could position the zone as a key player in the global digital asset market.

The agreement, which marks Bitget's largest announced arrangement to date in the Himalayan special economic zone, will see the exchange explore establishing a local presence and applying for a Financial Services Licence under Bhutan's regulatory framework.

Bhutan has been making waves in the digital asset space with its sovereign approach to the sector, using hydropower resources to support cryptocurrency mining as part of a strategy aimed at economic growth, job creation, and retaining younger workers.

Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said that Bhutan's mix of long-term thinking, clean-energy advantage, and regulatory clarity makes it an attractive destination for digital asset firms. The exchange plans to contribute its expertise and infrastructure knowledge to the zone as it grows.
