BitGo Bolsters Institutional Trading with NYDIG Acquisition
BitGo has expanded its institutional offerings after acquiring NYDIG's institutional trading business. The deal adds derivatives and capital markets services to BitGo's toolkit, enabling it to serve a broader range of institutional clients. According to BitGo, the acquisition includes about 30 employees and NYDIG's institutional client trading relationships.
The company described the transaction as a 'meaningful' scale-up of its trading and infrastructure capabilities for institutional users. BitGo CEO Mike Belshe said the deal will enable it to serve a broader range of clients, including asset managers, hedge funds, and corporate clients. The acquisition also allows NYDIG to focus on power generation, Bitcoin mining, and high-performance computing data centers.
The practical impact is potential changes to how execution, derivatives access, and financing services are sourced and coordinated. BitGo's pitch centers on scaling 'trading and infrastructure capabilities,' adding a team and client relationships focused on derivatives and structured products suggests it is trying to meet more of the institution's needs under one roof.
