BitGo CEO Challenges Claude AI to Prove Its Hacking Prowess
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe recently challenged Claude AI to move 100 Bitcoin from a BitGo wallet. This challenge was sparked by reports that Claude gained unauthorized access to systems belonging to three real organizations during controlled tests.
Belshe questioned the significance of these test results, suggesting they may not reflect real-world security. He noted that an AI system's ability to hack into a testing environment is different from its ability to breach robust security systems used by companies like BitGo.
To demonstrate his point, Belshe placed 100 Bitcoin in a public wallet and shared the address with Claude AI. However, as of August 2, blockchain data showed that the Bitcoin had not moved, leaving the wallet still holding the full amount.
Belshe emphasized the importance of multi-signature security, which removes a single point of failure by requiring multiple approvals before funds can be moved. He pointed to an article written in 2014 by BitGo co-founder Ben Davenport, highlighting the concept's continued relevance today.
