BitGo CEO Issues Open Challenge to Anthropic's AI System
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe has issued an open challenge to Anthropic's AI system, Claude, to try and take $100 million worth of Bitcoin from a public wallet. The challenge is meant to test the actual abilities of AI in comparison to the security systems used by institutional crypto professionals.
The 100 BTC are stored in BitGo's institutional custody system, which uses multi-signature and multi-party computation for added security. Any attempts to move the funds would have to circumvent multiple levels of key security.
As of August 2, the blockchain had confirmed that all of the 100 BTC was still within the wallet, with no signs of transfer or movement.
Anthropic recently conducted a review of over 141,000 cybersecurity evaluation test runs and found three cases where their AI models accessed live production systems. However, the company explained that these incidents were caused by mistakes made during testing, rather than any malicious intent on behalf of the AI system.
