BitGo Chooses Chainlink's CCIP for Exclusive Cross-Chain Infrastructure
BitGo has chosen Chainlink's CCIP (Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol) as its exclusive cross-chain infrastructure provider for all future BitGo-issued assets. This move affects over $7.7 billion of Wrapped Bitcoin, currently the largest omnichain fungible token by market capitalization.
The decision follows a significant DeFi exploit in April 2026, where an attacker drained $292 million from Kelp DAO's bridge using a DDoS attack on LayerZero's internal RPC infrastructure. Although BitGo's original setup was not directly exposed to the flaw, the migration is driven by operational criteria rather than a breach response.
Chainlink's CCIP will standardize WBTC and other future BitGo-issued assets on a single, institutional-grade interoperability standard. This shift replaces bridge-issued wrapper variants with one canonical deployment per chain, reducing fragmentation across chains over time.
