BitGo Credited for Historic Stablecoin Vehicle Purchase in Bolivia
BitGo's Country Manager for LATAM, Alvaro Olivares, spoke at the Bolivia Crypto Experience Summit in late July 2026 about the company's role in a significant milestone: Bolivia's first-ever vehicle purchase using Tether's USDT stablecoin.
In September 2025, BitGo partnered with Toyosa, the official Toyota distributor in Bolivia, along with Tether and Towerbank, to enable vehicle purchases denominated in USDT. The setup allows Bolivian consumers to pay in USDT, with transactions settling in minutes instead of days, as is typical with traditional banking rails.
The initial partnership has since expanded beyond Toyota dealerships, with BYD and Yamaha also accepting USDT payments through similar arrangements with BitGo. This represents three major vehicle brands offering crypto checkout in a country that only lifted its ban on cryptocurrency transactions in mid-2024.
