Bitgo Ditches Layerzero for Chainlink as Exclusive WBTC Provider
Crypto infrastructure firm Bitgo has chosen Chainlink as its exclusive cross-chain infrastructure provider for wrapped bitcoin (WBTC), replacing Layerzero. This move marks a significant shift in how WBTC, worth $7.7 billion, will be transferred across blockchain networks.
The decision to use Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) is aimed at providing a single framework for transferring assets between blockchains while applying the same security controls and operating standards. This approach will give Bitgo a consistent security model and allow it to manage transfers and operational policies through a single infrastructure platform.
Bitgo cited several factors behind its decision, including Chainlink's security architecture, institutional compliance standards, and built-in risk controls. The protocol also supports issuer-controlled transfer limits and configurable transaction controls, which can function as automated safeguards by slowing or restricting transfers if suspicious activity is detected.
