BitGo Ditches LayerZero for Chainlink in WBTC Cross-Chain Shift
BitGo has chosen Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as its exclusive cross-chain provider for Wrapped Bitcoin, replacing LayerZero. This move brings the total value of publicly announced migrations from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP to around $14.6 billion.
The migration allows BitGo to retain control over WBTC token contracts, transfer limits and cross-chain settings, while simplifying cross-chain deployments for future digital assets it issues. Under the new setup, WBTC will be standardized around Chainlink's Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard using CCIP by default.
The switch comes after a series of similar moves made in response to the $292 million exploit involving Kelp DAO's LayerZero-powered bridge earlier this year. Other notable migrations include those from Mantle, Lombard, Aave, and Kraken, among others.
