BitGo Korea Clears Major Hurdle with VASP Approval in South Korea
BitGo Korea has secured VASP approval from South Korea's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), marking a significant milestone for the global crypto infrastructure company. This achievement comes after BitGo Korea underwent registration as a Virtual Asset Service Provider in the country, becoming the first subsidiary of an overseas VASP to be registered without acquisition.
The approval allows BitGo Korea to build on its existing financial and technology partners, including Hana Financial Group, which holds a 25% stake in the company. SK Telecom also has a 10% stake in BitGo Korea. The registration paves the way for BitGo to develop its Korean business around its own regulatory framework.
BitGo Korea will focus on providing crypto custody and transfer services for financial institutions and corporate clients. While no specific date was given for the launch, the company has a strong foundation from which to build its offerings for institutions under the regulatory structure in South Korea.
The approval is a significant step for BitGo's approach to providing compliant crypto infrastructure across key markets. The company aims to be more active in the Korean market with its global virtual asset infrastructure.
