BitGo Launches Asia-Focused Stablecoin Amid Broader Market Pressure
BitGo has partnered with New Frontier Labs to issue and custody FYUSD, a new dollar-pegged stablecoin designed for institutional investors in Asia. The partnership involves BitGo Bank & Trust National Association, which will handle issuance and custody services for the token.
FYUSD is structured to comply with the GENIUS Act stablecoin regulatory framework, requiring 1:1 backing with either cash deposits held by a qualified custodian or short-term U.S. government debt instruments, along with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.
The broader stablecoin market is under pressure, with total stablecoin market capitalization standing at over $295 billion, down from a peak of over $300 billion in December. USDT issuer Tether's circulating supply has dropped by $1.5 billion in February, following a $1.2 billion drop in January.
