BitGo Leans on Chainlink for Secure WBTC Bridge
BitGo has chosen Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as the exclusive bridge for its Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), which is valued at $7.7 billion. This move gives Chainlink a significant role in managing the flow of billions in Bitcoin liquidity within decentralized finance.
The use of CCIP simplifies BitGo's infrastructure but also centralizes risk in one protocol, raising concerns about potential vulnerabilities. However, this decision aims to enhance security and efficiency in DeFi liquidity by making bridges less vulnerable to exploits.
This partnership follows a similar deal between Coinbase and Chainlink for its wrapped Bitcoin product, indicating industry consolidation. The reliance on CCIP extends from reserve verification to cross-chain transfers, signaling a deeper technical partnership between the two companies.
