BitGo Migrates $7.7B WBTC to Chainlink's Secure Cross-Chain Protocol
Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) has gained another major institutional client, BitGo. The crypto custodian has named CCIP the exclusive cross-chain infrastructure for Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), with over $7.7 billion of the token moving off its previous provider. This move follows a documented exploit in April 2026 that led to a loss of roughly $292 million in rsETH.
The incident triggered a wave of migrations toward CCIP across the industry, with Chainlink's own tally counting roughly $15 billion in value migrated across 13 named teams. BitGo cited four specific reasons for the change: CCIP's secured bridge lanes, SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certifications, issuer-managed rate limits, and configurable transfer controls.
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe said the company prioritizes security first, with Chainlink CCIP giving BitGo the controls, reliability, and risk management standards its institutional clients expect. The switch follows a legacy setup that no longer meets BitGo's needs.
