BitGo Migrates WBTC to Chainlink CCIP in $7.7B Security Upgrade
Crypto custody firm BitGo has completed the migration of its cross-chain infrastructure for Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) to Chainlink's CCIP interoperability protocol. This move brings over $7.7 billion in value under a single, standardized architecture, reducing operational vulnerabilities and improving security.
The shift away from LayerZero, which previously handled WBTC infrastructure, follows industry-wide recognition of Chainlink's robustness and reliability. The company's network secures over $110 billion in DeFi applications and has processed a cumulative value exceeding $32 trillion.
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe emphasized the importance of institutional risk management, stating that the CCIP protocol delivers operational reliability and compliance standards required by his firm's clients as they expand asset custody into new networks. The technical deployment of WBTC on the CCIP protocol is expected in the coming weeks.
