Bithumb Delays IPO Plans Again, Now Aiming for 2028 Listing
Bithumb, South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has delayed its initial public offering (IPO) plans. Initially planning to list on Nasdaq in either 2025 or 2026, the company now aims to go public in 2028.
According to Jeong Sang-gyun, chief financial officer of Bithumb, the firm will continue improving compliance and internal control before listing. The company has signed an advisory agreement with Samjong KPMG to support its listing process through the end of 2027.
The decision to delay the IPO was made after a system failure in February 2026 caused over $40 billion in erroneous transactions, as well as an anti-money laundering violation investigation. Bithumb's CEO, Lee Jae-won, was re-elected for a two-year term during the April 2026 annual meeting.
