Bithumb Targets 2028 Public Listing After Year-Long Preparations
Bithumb, South Korea's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange, is moving forward with plans to go public in 2028. The company aims to strengthen its internal controls and transition to Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS) by 2026.
In preparation for the IPO, Bithumb is developing a risk management system that meets the standards of major publicly traded companies. It's also restructuring its business and diversifying revenue sources to improve financial stability.
The exchange was previously expected to go public in 2025 but delayed the offering due to internal issues and regulatory scrutiny. In early 2026, an employee accidentally credited users with approximately 620,000 BTC, worth around $43 billion at the time, attracting the attention of South Korea's Financial Supervisory Service.
Bithumb has engaged investment firms, law firms, and auditors to assess its business and develop a strategy for the preliminary listing review. An IPO would allow Bithumb to raise capital, increase corporate value, and strengthen investor confidence.
