Bithumb Wins Lawsuit Over Mistakenly Credited Bitcoin
The Seoul Central District Court has ruled in favor of Bithumb in a lawsuit stemming from a February error that mistakenly credited users with approximately 620,000 BTC.
The court ordered one customer to return about $140,400 after they sold the mistakenly credited Bitcoin and kept the proceeds. The ruling was part of a broader recovery effort by the exchange to recover money linked to the error.
The incident occurred during a random-box promotion for small cash prizes, where a staff member entered Bitcoin instead of Korean won, causing internal records to show the inflated amount. Trading continued for about 40 minutes before the exchange halted activity, with approximately 1,788 BTC reaching the order book.
