Bithumb Wins Lawsuits Over Erroneous BTC Distribution
Bithumb has won two lawsuits against users who sold mistakenly credited Bitcoin and did not return the proceeds.
The Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of Bithumb on August 26 and 27, with one case amounting to 5 million won ($3,600) and the other to 194 million won ($140,000).
The incident occurred in February 2026 when an employee mistakenly set Bitcoin as the payout unit instead of Korean currency during a promotional event.
A total of 620,000 BTC was credited to 249 users' accounts, valued at over $40 billion. However, before transactions were made, Bithumb recovered 618,214 BTC (99.7% of the erroneously credited amount).
